Electro-active Polymer for Kinetic Arch.

EAPs are polymers that change in size and shape when exposed to an electronic field. Usually used in sensors and actuators it’s seen as “artificial muscle”. In this case below it has been applied to an architectural scale.

Some features:

+ Ultra lightweight

+ transparent/translucent

+ no need of mechanical actuators

– Precedents available from three years ago

– might not like WATER (!!!) or heat

 

– me: potential for other kinds of coating (hydrophobic, nutrient…)?
